Jean Reis holds a Master of Music degree, specializing in Orchestral Conducting and Violin, from the prestigious Andrews University and University of Redlands. Throughout his training, he had the privilege of studying under distinguished conductors such as Zvonimir Hacko, Marvin Rabin, Jon Robertson, Keith Igarashi, Eleazar de Carvalho, and Jeff Rickard (choral conducting). As a violinist, he was mentored by renowned professors, including Germano Streithorst, Berenice C. Liedke, Erich Leheninger, Audino Nunes, Alberto Jaffé, and Lyndon Taylor.

 

As a conductor, Jean Reis has led numerous internationally recognized orchestras and ensembles. He has conducted the Orquestra Arpeggione (Austria), Mont Blanc Chamber Orchestra (France), Banda Sinfónica de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires, Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Gulf Coast, Orquestra Sinfônica Cultura, Orquestra Jazz Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo, Orquestra de Câmara Eleazar de Carvalho, Orquestra Sinfônica de Campinas, University of North Dakota String Orchestra, University City Symphony (Missouri), Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (Vietnam), and Alea Orchestra Giovanile del Tiburtino in Rome, among others. He was a guest conductor at the opening concert of the Premier Orchestral Institute in Jackson, USA. He also conducted performances of The Nutcracker ballet with the Northwest Florida Ballet and premiered Arthur Barbosa’s Brazilian Symphony and Guilherme Bernstein Seixas’ Piano Concerto with the Symphony of the Americas at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale. With the Orquestra Filarmónica de Mendoza, he conducted symphonic concerts as well as Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni. In the USA, he conducted Mozart’s Coronation Mass with the University of New Mexico Symphony Orchestra and Choir. As Assistant Conductor of the University of Southern Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, he was responsible for the premiere of Arthur Barbosa’s Violin Concerto and assisted young Brazilian musicians in furthering their studies in the United States.

 

Jean Reis has also had an outstanding career as a violinist. He has performed with São Paulo’s leading orchestras, including the Orquestra Sinfônica Municipal de São Paulo, the Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo, and the Orquestra Jazz Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo. In the United States, he played with ensembles such as the Riverside Symphony Orchestra, Redlands Symphony Orchestra, Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, Meridian Symphony Orchestra, and Gulfport Symphony, among others. He was a violin professor and orchestral studies instructor at the Universidade Livre de Música and ACARTE, and was a member of the Quarteto Paulista de Cordas, performing in prestigious concert halls across Brazil, the United States, and Europe.

 

As a guest conductor, Jean Reis has participated in the Hot Music Festival (Arkansas), where he recorded Alan Shulman’s Cello Concerto with cellist Wesley Baldwin. He also conducted at the National Music Festival (USA) and the Espressivo Music Festival (Montenegro). For two years, he was invited to the École Normale de Musique de Paris, where he served on the jury for the Concertiste Diploma in the violin program.

 

Beyond his work as a conductor and violinist, Jean Reis is widely recognized for his contributions as Artistic Director and founder of more than 80 music festivals across Brazil. These include the Festival Internacional de Canto de Curitiba (FICC), Festival de Ópera do Paraná, Festival Internacional de Música de Maringá (FIMMA), Festival Internacional de Música do UNASP-SP (MUNASP), Festival Internacional Música no Pampa (FIMP), and Festival Internacional de Música de Bauru (FIMUB), among others. He currently directs major festivals such as the Festival Música nas Montanhasin Poços de Caldas-MG, the Festival Internacional Música no Mar de Minas in Alfenas-MG, the Festival Internacional de Música Araucárias do Paraná (FESTIMAP) in Toledo-PR, and the Festival Internacional Música na Serra in Lages-SC.

 

Jean Reis has been honored with numerous awards, including the title of Honorary Citizen of Poços de Caldas for his contributions to culture and the Dom Pedro II Medal, commemorating the city’s 150th anniversary. He received the Carlos Gomes Order of Cultural Merit at the Commander level—the highest honor awarded by the Brazilian Society of Arts, Culture, and Education—and was also recognized with the 50th Anniversary Medal of Brazil’s Peacekeeping Forces, granted by the Brazilian Association of UN Peacekeeping Forces.

 

Currently, Jean Reis is the founding conductor and music director of the Orquestra Versatilis and the Orquestra Versatilis Filarmônica Mineira. As a violinist, he performs with the Versatilis Ensemble, Duo10 (with guitarist Felipe Coelho), and DuoAR (with pianist Flávio Augusto).
